For those with high shelf-esteem!
Quixotic. Emotional Reader. Passionate. Occasional Writer. Permanent Student. Nature Girl. Flori-Texan. Animal Rescuer. Character Fangirl. Coffee Obsessed. Concert-Goer. Wisdom Seeker. Quote Hoarder. Flawed. Full of Contradictions. Blessed.
For years, I dreaded the outdoors and avoided change as much as I could. But then, I fell in love with adventure: camping, hiking, traveling, discovering new and exciting places, cooking exotic foods, running 5ks, attending rock n' roll concerts, and on the list goes. That probably has a lot to do with falling in love with a certain guy. Doing things I've never done before, exploring foreign countries, and confronting my fears has built my self-esteem and given me a new outlook on life.
Similarly, my mind is continually shaped and sorted by the books I read. Soul-searching, whether done through traveling, new experiences or simply by reading books, enriches us, challenges us and changes us. This is what my blog attempts to capture: book reviews, yes, but also new experiences in all their forms, and how they shape who I am. My "shelf-esteem" if you will. Hopefully you, dear reader, will be inspired by most of what you read here, and share what builds YOUR self and shelf-esteem with me in return!
I have been part of the book blogging world since January 2011, when I launched my first blog, BlookGirl. In 2012, BlookGirl was nominated for and won the category for Best Reviews in The Bloggy Awards. I eventually retired BlookGirl in 2013 to focus on university studies and career aspirations, but I couldn't stay away from blogging too long, and thus, Shelfishly Addicted was launched in March of 2015.
Since I launched this blog, I've gone on to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree in Corporate Communications (UT-Permian Basin) and a Master of Science degree in Integrated Marketing Communications & Advertising from the Brian Lamb School of Communication at Purdue University. I married the love of my life in a big fat Punjabi wedding in 2016, and we welcomed our darling baby boy into the world in the summer of 2019. Needless to say, life has been a whirlwind the last few years and sometimes the blog takes a back burner to life. However, I am always reading and you'll find more immediate updates on the Facebook and Instagram pages for the blog. I hope you'll follow along and share in a celebration of all things bookish with me!
